Jose Mourinho has promised Manchester United fans that he will do all that he can to restore the club to the top of English football.

The Portuguese coach was finally officially confirmed as the Red Devils’ new manager on Friday morning after days of speculation linking him with the role.

Mourinho has signed a three-year contract with the Red Devils and has the option to extend his deal to at least 2020.

The manager has been out of work since his sacking by Chelsea back in December following the west London club’s disastrous start to the season.

And the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss had a special message for Manchester United’s supporters as he gave his first full interview to MUTV on Friday.

Mourinho said: “I think I know what they [the supporters] can give me.

“They know what I can give them. The most important thing is the players and my relationships with the players.

“But it’s curious that I play so many times against Manchester United and at Old Trafford with other clubs, [and] there was empathy [from the supporters], no problems and I was pushed by that feeling sometimes to say somethings that my [previous] clubs were not happy with!

“I remember for example when I won at Old Trafford with Real Madrid and I said that the best team lost…not many people were happy at Real Madrid!”
