Liverpool to forget Mario Gotze and turn to £25m striker – report
Liverpool want to sign Sadio Mane if a deal for Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze falls through, according to reports
Liverpool have turned their attentions to Sadio Mane after missing out on Mario Gotze, according to reports in the British media.
The Reds are thought to have been keen on Bayern Munich star Gotze as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2016/17 season.
However, the 23-year-old was reported to have committed his future to the Bundesliga champions earlier this week ahead of the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti as Pep Guardiola’s replacement.
According to report in the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have targeted Southampton forward Mane as a possible alternative to the World Cup winner.
The £25m-rated forward scored 15 goals and made nine assists in an excellent 2015/16 season for the Saints, prompting reports of interest from Liverpool’s bitter Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The Senegal international has also been touted as a possible target for former Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently in charge at Tottenham Hotspur.
