Liverpool handed transfer boost after £20m Germany star told to follow Jurgen Klopp
Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer tells Mario Gotze to link up with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
Franz Beckenbauer says Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze should follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp and move to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has endured a frustrating spell for club and country after having spent most of the season sidelined with injury.
Gotze picked up the problem during Germany’s 1-0 defeat by Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin in October.
The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker has only made a handful of appearances for Bayern since his return to full fitness.
Jurgen Klopp, who brought Gotze through at Dortmund, is thought to be keen to bring the World Cup winner to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
Former Bayern and Germany defender Beckenbauer believes Gotze would be most comfortable playing under his former Dortmund manager Klopp at Anfield.
“I would, in his place, go to a place where I feel comfortable,” Beckenbaur told Sky Germany.
“I have the impression that Mario has not felt right in Munich and also has not been understood, so that he could show his full potential.
“I would in his place go where I am comfortable and follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp.”
Liverpool will make the trip to West Brom in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds will face reigning champions Sevilla in the Europa League final next week.
