Liverpool, Tottenham suffer blow with £10m striker to get new contract – report
Southampton will offer Liverpool and Tottenham target Shane Long a new contract, according to a report
Southampton are preparing to offer Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long a new contract to warn off interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Star.
The 29-year-old ended the Premier League season in a rich vein of form after scoring 10 goals in the English top flight for the first time.
Liverpool have been linked with the Irish striker regularly over the past three months, while Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was at Ireland’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands at the Aviva Stadium last week.
Long was one of Southampton manager Ronald Koeman’s first signings after the Dutchman replaced Pochettino at St Mary’s in 2014.
According to the Daily Star, the Saints are ready to offer Long a new deal to secure his future in the south coast amid interest from Liverpool and Tottenham.
The Ireland forward has two years remaining on his four-year contract which he signed upon his £11m transfer from Hull City in 2014.
