Louis van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update on Luke Shaw
Louis van Gaal rules Luke Shaw out of Manchester United's FA Cup final later this month
Louis van Gaal has ruled Luke Shaw out of Manchester United’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace despite the left-back’s recent return to training.
The full-back has been sidelined since September after suffering a double fracture of his leg during the Champions League defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven.
Shaw has been working hard on his fitness levels in recent weeks and has recently begun training outdoors with a physiotherapist at United’s Carrington training ground.
The England defender has not given up all hope of featuring before the end of the season after he took to Instagram to post a photo ahead of training with United on Wednesday.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference on Friday afternoon, Van Gaal poured cold water on talk of the former Southampton defender featuring against Palace at Wembley.
“I have always said to him that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final [next weekend].
“It is a pity because he cannot reach that level to play. He needs more time to play.
“His motivation is still high and I have to give compliments to him because it is not easy to be away for such a long time.
“He is coming back, but he is coming back next season.”
Shaw moved to United in a £25m deal from the Saints in 2014.
