Louis van Gaal: Man United must learn from Liverpool losers
Louis van Gaal warns Manchester United that they must be fully focused ahead of the FA Cup final
Louis van Gaal has told Manchester United’s players that they must be fully focused ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final clash with Crystal Palace – and pointed to Liverpool’s Europa League final loss as a warning.
Jurgen Klopp’s men were beaten 3-1 in Basel on Wednesday night as they lost their second final under the German coach this season and missed the chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
United are gearing up for their FA Cup showdown with the Eagles at Wembley as they bid to end a disappointing campaign on a high.
The Red Devils have been forced to settle for a place in next season’s Europa League after their were pipped to a top four finish in the Premier League by local rivals Manchester City.
And Van Gaal has warned his players that they must be fully alert as the Dutchman bids to steer United to their first title since he was appointed back in 2014.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Van Gaal said: “Close is not enough, you have to win it.
“Now we can win something. You cannot predict a final, you have seen it on Wednesday [when Liverpool lost to Sevilla], for example.
“When you win silverware it is always important for the players. They can look and they can hold the cup and that is an exciting moment.
“The FA Cup is a big title in England, we are playing in the most prestigious temple of England.”
