Shaun Goater has warned Arsenal that Manchester City will be full of confidence ahead of Sunday’s clash if Manuel Pellegrini’s side get a positive result in Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Citizens make the trip to Real Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final after a goalless draw between the Premier League and La Liga clubs at The Etihad last week.

City are three points behind third-placed Arsenal following Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Southampton, while the Eastlands outfit are only four points ahead of Manchester United, who lead the chasing pack.

However, Goater, who scored 84 times in 184 appearances for City, believes a positive result against Real Madrid could spur Pellegrini’s side to a vital win against the Gunners.

“The Arsenal game is crucial now but if we win in Madrid the confidence from that will make City favourites,” said Goater, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

“They will come back for the league game and I can tell you that even with all the flying and travelling players will not be physically tired because of the confidence gained from getting a result against Real Madrid.”
