Man United chasing £20m Sweden defender – report

Manchester United want to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to Aftonbladet

Manchester United are interested in signing Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to a report in the Swedish media.

The Red Devils have played Netherlands international Daley Blind at centre-half alongside Chris Smalling for most of the season despite his orthodox position as a midfielder.

The 20-time English champions have already missed out on long-term target Mats Hummels after the Germany international agreed a deal to swap Borussia Dortmund for Bayern Munich this summer.

According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, United have put together a £20m deal to sign the highly-rated Benfica centre-half Lindelof as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his defensive options.

The Red Devils finished in fifth place in the Premier League table behind Manchester City on goal difference after a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
