Manchester United are close to signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, says Dutch football expert
Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.
The Swedish striker’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after he confirmed plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires at the end of the season.
United are believed to be keen to lure the prolific forward to Old Trafford, and Jose Mourinho is understood to be a keen admirer of the 34-year-old striker.
There have been reports that Ibrahimovic could be set to take up a coaching role at his next club.
However, Dutch football writer Elko Born has insisted that Ibrahimovic will first conclude his playing career and is close to a move to Manchester United.
Writing on Twitter, Born said: “According to De Telegraaf, there are plans for Zlatan to become an ‘assistant coach’ at Manchester United after his playing career.
“To be clear: Zlatan will join as a player. He won’t become a coach until after his retirement, probably in a few years.”
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements after they were forced to settle for a fifth-placed finish this season.
