Mauricio Pochettino lifts the lid on meeting with Man United director Sir Alex Ferguson

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino addresses his meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson during the week

Mauricio Pochettino has lifted the lid on his meeting with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Spurs manager prompted speculation suggesting that he could take over from Louis van Gaal at the end of the season after he was photographed leaving a lunch with Ferguson.

However, Pochettino poured cold water on talk of the former Argentina international taking over the reins at Old Trafford after he put pen to paper on a new five-year deal on Thursday afternoon.

The 44-year-old has led Tottenham to second place in the Premier League table this season ahead of their final game of the season against Newcastle United at St James’s Park.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon, Pochettino discussed meeting Ferguson for lunch during the week ahead of their long trip to Newcastle.

“It was fantastic, a dream come true. When I started my career as a manager, he was always my inspiration, my reference,” Pochettino said.

“He is a person we can all learn from. He has a fantastic history in football and in life.”
