Memphis Depay’s strong message for Man United fans ahead of next season
Memphis Depay vows to keep fighting to improve at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho
Memphis Depay has vowed to keep fighting to improve after a disappointing debut season for him at Manchester United.
Depay arrived at Old Trafford to much fanfare from PSV Eindhoven last summer but struggled to produce consistent performances for the Red Devils in his first season in charge under Louis van Gaal.
The 22-year-old winger scored five goals in 44 appearances for United in all competitions last season but failed to hold down a regular spot in the Red Devils side.
Depay is now preparing for life under new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho – and the Netherlands international has promised that he will not change his hard-working attitude as he prepares for his second season in the Premier League.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Depay said: “It’s not been a bad year but it’s not been a good year.
“You know, it’s been right there in the middle. I had more expectations of myself and so did the fans as well and that’s normal.”
He added: “You’re the first person who was believing in yourself, no matter what, so you have to keep your chest out and sometimes it’s really hard.
“But I’m still young, 22. I think that’s for everybody – never give up if you believe in something that you can achieve. I think you will make it if you put everything into it. That’s my motto – dream, believe, achieve. I don’t want to give up on anything.”
Manchester United opted to sack Van Gaal on Monday afternoon after the Red Devils finished fifth in the Premier League and won the FA Cup.
