Mesut Ozil has revealed how some key nutritional changes have helped him to develop into one of Arsenal’s top players.
Ozil earned plenty of praise for his performances for the north London club last season as he notched up 19 assists in the Premier League to help Arsene Wenger’s men finish second in the table.
The 27-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal side since arriving at Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.
And the World Cup winner has revealed how some key changes to his lifestyle away from football have helped him to improve on the pitch.
Speaking in an interview with France Football, Ozil said: “Before, I liked to consume soft drinks and I did not drink enough water,’ he said. ‘Now I drink a lot of water and green tea. In terms of nutrition, I quit the bread.
“So, I feel much better in my body and muscle injuries are becoming increasingly rare.
“I realised that talent alone is not enough to achieve my goals. Today, I am often the first to training and the last to leave. A few years ago, it was unimaginable (laughs).”
Ozil won the FA Cup in his first two seasons at Arsenal but ended the last campaign without a trophy for the first time.
His future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks as he enters into the final two years of his contract.
