Michael Owen states bold prediction for Newcastle v Tottenham

Michael Owen predicts the outcome of Tottenham Hotspur's trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon

Michael Owen believes relegated Newcastle United will still pick up a point against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Magpies were condemned to the Championship on Wednesday night after Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland side were 3-0 winners against rudderless Everton at the Stadium of Light to secure their Premier League safety.

That results means Rafael Benitez’s side only have pride to play for when Newcastle host second-placed Tottenham at St James’s Park on Sunday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have plenty of incentive to give 100 per cent, with Spurs looking to finish above their north London rivals Arsenal for the first time in Premier League history.

Former Newcastle striker Owen believes the home side will manage to pick up a positive result against the Lilywhites despite their demotion to the second tier of English football.

“It is bitterly disappointing to see my old Club in the Championship but I’m convinced they will bounce back at the first time of asking and hope they can hold on to Rafa Benitez who didn’t quite have enough time to turn things around,” Owen told BetVictor.

“Spurs have had a magnificent season but they may have to settle for a point which will be enough to see them finish as runners up; they deserve to end the campaign in second place in the table.”

Tottenham are two points ahead of third-placed Arsenal ahead of the final day of the Premier League season.
