Niall Quinn: This is what Jose Mourinho will bring to Man United

Niall Quinn says that Jose Mourinho is the man to restore Manchester United to the top of English football

Niall Quinn believes that Jose Mourinho will bring “rock and roll” back to Manchester United next season.

The Portuguese coach is set to take charge at Old Trafford following the sacking of Louis van Gaal by United on Monday evening.

Mourinho’s future has been a source of relentless speculation since his sacking by Chelsea back in December, but the former Inter Milan boss is always believed to have been keen to stay in the Premier League.

United have been widely criticised for their unadventurous style of play under Van Gaal in recent months.

And Quinn feels that Mourinho’s appointment will take Manchester United back to the big time as they look to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Quinn said: “There are two ways of looking at it: from a football point of view and the other from the commercial.

“I think it’s rock ‘n’ roll from a commercial point of view. It will catapult Man United back onto the front stage. They have been quiet for the last few years.

“From a football decision there is always a doubt about a new manager no matter who it is. This is at the very top and one of the people who has done it for years.

“But he has to go and do it all again. The past is forgotten about and if he thinks he has been in goldfish bowls before he is really going to be in one now. Will he do it? It’s not simple.”

United ended up in fifth place in the Premier League table last season but also won the FA Cup before Van Gaal’s dismissal.
