Paul Merson makes controversial claim about Arsenal and Diego Simeone

Paul Merson isn't a fan of Diego Simeone's style of football at Atletico Madrid

Paul Merson has pleaded with Arsenal not to consider Diego Simeone as Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the Emirates Stadium.

The current Gunners manager is facing an uncertain future after a disappointing Premier League campaign for the north London outfit.

Arsenal haven’t fared any better in the cup competitions after making premature exits in the Champions League and the FA Cup earlier this year.

In contrast, Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side are in the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons after knocking out Bayern Munich in the last four.

The former Argentina midfielder has won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Europa League since he took over the reins of Los Rojiblancos in 2011.

But former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t want Simeone to replace Wenger in The Emirates hot seat despite his incredible record at Atletico.

“No. No. No. He isn’t Arsenal,” Merson told Fantasy FC podcast.

“Who are the one team you cannot watch? It’s Atletico Madrid. How boring is it? Tactically, it’s great. But you can’t watch them every week.”
