Paul Scholes reacts as Man United beat Palace to win the FA Cup

Paul Scholes has his say after Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 to win the FA Cup

Paul Scholes heaped praise on Jesse Lingard after the substitute came off the bench to score Manchester United’s winner as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and win the FA Cup.

After a goalless first half, United hit the woodword through a Marouane Fellaini shot and an Anthony Martial header.

However, the Red Devils fell behind when Jason Puncheon fired in an angled shot in the 78th minute at Wembley.

But Juan Mata volleyed home an equaliser just 175 seconds later, before Chris Smalling was sent off for United.

And substitute Lingard thumped in a winner after 110 minutes to hand United their first trophy since 2013.

Scholes was hugely impressed by Lingard’s contribution as Manchester United secured a dramatic late win.

Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle, Scholes said: These are the moments you dream of as a footballer, scoring the winning goal in a cup final.

“And what a goal. He couldn’t have asked for a better goal than that.”
