Gabriel Paulista posted a heartfelt message to Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta on Sunday afternoon following the Spanish midfielder’s final game at The Emirates.

The 34-year-old was an 88th-minute substitute for Mesut Ozil as Arsene Wenger gave his club captain the opportunity to wave goodbye to the home supporters.

And Arteta helped Arsenal secure a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa and finish above their bitter north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table.

Brazil international Gabriel posted a touching Instagram message for the veteran midfielder after the final game of a disappointing Premier League season.

Gabriel wrote: “Thank you Captain !!!!”

Arteta joined the north London club from Premier League rivals Everton in 2011 and made 150 appearances, scoring 17 goals.

The Spanish midfielder saw the Gunners win back-to-back FA Cup crowns during his four-year stay at the Emirates Stadium.
