The Swiss warmed up for this summer’s tournament with a clash against one of the favourites – Belgium.
Xhaka has experienced a whirlwind week after completing a much-anticipated £33m move to Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 23-year-old is Arsene Wenger’s first signing of the summer transfer window ahead of what could be the manager’s final season in charge.
But the new Gunners signing was very much focused on international affairs on Saturday night as Xhaka’s Swiss side lost 2-1 to Belgium in a pre-season tournament.
Xhaka wrote on his Instagram page: “Good game👍🏻, only the result not👎🏻 Continueto look forward💪🏻 @axelwitsel28”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table following a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the season at the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger’s underperforming Gunners side made premature exits in the FA Cup and the Champions League earlier this year in a disappointing 2015/16 season.
