The midfielder had been strongly linked with a move to The Emirates before finally putting pen to paper on a contract with the north London side this week.
The Switzerland international becomes Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with Arsene Wenger moving quickly to begin his recruitment drive.
Speculation has been rife about Xhaka’s proposed move to The Emirates and the midfielder was clearly relieved for the deal to have gone through, if his latest post on Instagram is anything to go by.
Xhaka posted the picture above on the app on Wednesday afternoon and wrote: “Now it’s official. From next season on I will play for @Arsenal. I want to thank everyone at @borussia. Together we brought the club back to where it belongs, to the Champions League. I will always look back with pleasure to that time.
“But from now on I’m totally focused on playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a big honour for me to wear the Arsenal jersey, as well as it has been an honour to play for Gladbach in the last four years. I hope we see each other again in the Champions League! #Xhaka #GX34 #PremierLeague #Thanks”
Arsenal ended up finishing in second place in the Premier League table last term after they pipped local rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the campaign despite trailing them for much of the season.
