Rene Meulensteen: Why Man United should sign this Premier League midfielder
Rene Meulensteen wants Manchester United to sign Danny Drinkwater
Rene Meulensteen says Manchester United should re-sign Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has been a key part of Claudio Ranieri’s title-winning side this season after the Foxes won their first-ever Premier League crown by a staggering 10 points.
Drinkwater, who started his career at Old Trafford before he moved Leicester in 2012, scored two goals and made seven assists in 35 top-flight appearances for the Foxes this term.
The Leicester midfielder has been rewarded for his brilliant form with a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016 in France this summer, too.
Former United assistant manager Meulensteen believes Drinkwater would be an excellent purchase to bolster the Red Devils’s midfield options.
“Drinkwater has a Manchester United history having come through the academy and look at how he’s established himself in the Premier League,” said Meulensteen, speaking to exclusively to 888 sport.
“Sometimes you don’t have to look further because those players know what playing in the Premier League is about. If you bring a foreign player in they might need time to adjust. Players like Danny Drinkwater who is now in the England squad would fit in nice and easily.”
Leicester finished 10 points clear of their nearest rivals Arsenal on 81 points.
United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table behind Manchester United on goal difference following a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
