Roberto Firmino sends message to Mario Gotze amid Liverpool transfer speculation
The Brazil midfielder urges the Bayern Munich forward to make £20m transfer to Liverpool this summer
Roberto Firmino has reassured Mario Gotze that the Bayern Munich forward would be a good fit in the Liverpool side.
The Europa League finalists have been linked with a £20m move for the World Cup winner ahead of the summer transfer window.
Gotze played under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before he moved to Bayern in a £30m deal in 2013.
Firmino has scored 10 goals and has made seven assists in his first season in the Premier League after he moved to Anfield from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in a £29m deal last summer.
The Brazil international backed Liverpool’s pursuit of the 23-year-old Bayern forward ahead of Wednesday night’s Europa League final against Sevilla.
“Also Gotze I still know well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern,” Firmino is quoted as saying by Bild.
“He has incredible qualities in attack. He would fit in well with us and will surely help us with his class also.”
Firmino’s attention turns to the Europa League final this week as he travels with the Liverpool squad to Basel.
On Sunday, Bayern and Germany legend Franz Beckenbaeur urged Gotze to follow Klopp to Liverpool amid increasingly talk of an imminent £20m move.
Other reports have suggested that Gotze has been asking discrete questions in what life on Merseyside would be like ahead of a potential move.
