Scott Parker says Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele is one of the most difficult opponents that the former Chelsea midfielder has faced in his Premier League career.

The Belgium international has played a key role in Tottenham’s Premier League title bid which was extinguished on Monday night following a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Dembele has only scored three goals and has made one assist in 29 top-flight games, but the 28-year-old has been a driving force in Tottenham’s midfield.

And Parker, who played with and against Dembele during his Premier League career, explained why the former Fulham midfielder is such a difficult opponent.

“He has developed no end. He came to Spurs from Fulham. He struggled in the first six months and the fans didn’t really take to him,” Parker told Sky Sports.

“He is one of the most difficult players that I’ve played against. He is a real strong boy. You know he will go on his left foot but he can manipulate the ball and use his body.

“He is the best at shielding the ball.”

Dembele moved to Tottenham from west London side Fulham in 2012 after Spurs activated a £15m release clause in the midfielder’s contract.
