Stan Collymore makes bold claim about Arsenal and Tottenham
Stan Collymore says the fortunes of the north London clubs highlight what a poor season it has been
Stan Collymore believes the fortunes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur highlight the poor standard in the Premier League this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side are on the brink of finishing above their north London rivals for the first time in Premier League history.
Tottenham have the best defensive record in the Premier League and only Manchester City have scored more goals than Harry Kane and company.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have endured a difficult campaign which has led for calls for long-serving manager Arsene Wenger to stand down at the end of the season.
However, for all the Gunners’s struggles, the 2014 and 2015 FA Cup holders are only two points behind the Lilywhites ahead of the final game of the season.
Former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest striker Collymore claimed that the fortunes of the north London sides epitomise a below-par season.
“The proof that the Premier League has been one of the worst ever comes from the Manchester/North London battle that will now take place at Upton Park on Tuesday night and then the last, exciting match day on Sunday, where Leicester and their players may be double digits in points ahead of the rest,” Collymore wrote in his BoyleSport blog.
“The story we’ve all been fed this season is as follows.
“Arsenal are mentally weak. Spurs are mentally strong. Arsenal are s**t. Spurs are a great side in the making.
“Yet Arsenal could finish second come next Sunday evening.”
Tottenham will make the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday, while Arsenal will host Aston Villa.
