Terry Venables makes bold claim about Arsenal manager and Jack Wilshere
Terry Venables is happy to trust Arsene Wenger's judgement on Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere
Terry Venables says England must place their faith in Arsene Wenger after the Arsenal manager declared Jack Wilshere fit for Euro 2016.
The Gunners midfielder has been included in England’s preliminary 23-man squad for this summer’s European championship despite missing most of the season through injury.
Wilshere made his long-awaited return from an ankle injury at the end of April after coming on as a late substitute in a goalless draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The 24-year-old went on to feature against Manchester City and Aston Villa in Arsenal’s final games of the season to get vital minutes under his belt ahead of Euro 2016.
However, former England manager Venables isn’t too concerned about the prospect of Wilshere suffering an injury blow during the major tournament this summer.
“The boy has done well to get in and Wenger has said that he’s okay so we have to go with that. All his injuries have been upsetting but he now has to do everything he can to beat some stiff competition and get in the first team,” said Venables, speaking to Carlsberg.
Wilshere has played just three games in the 2015/16 Premier League season after an injury-hit campaign for the Arsenal star.
