Terry Venables makes special claim about Man United striker
Terry Venables runs the rule over Manchester United teenager Marcus Rashford
Terry Venables says Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford already looks like a “very special” player after the teenager’s inclusion in Roy Hodgson’s England squad.
The 18-year-old striker has been included in the England manager’s preliminary 26-man party for this summer European championship in France, with three players set to miss out before the tournament.
Rashford has enjoyed a whirlwind first season in the Premier League after the United centre-forward scored twice on his top-flight debut in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford.
The England youngster went on to net the winner in United’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the derby at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year.
The United teenager finished with a respectable tally of five goals and two assists in 11 Premier League games.
Former England manager Venables explained why he is a big fan of Rashford ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final.
“He’s done amazingly well to get in the group and he’s now got to show he can compete with the big boys,” said Venables, speaking to Carlsberg.
“Roy wants to see how he copes at that level and considering all the top players already in the squad it’s fantastic. He is something really special and right now he’s walking on water.”
United finished the season in fifth place in the Premier League table.
