Thierry Henry: This is big problem facing Man United over Jose Mourinho appointment
Thierry Henry discusses Manchester United, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho
Thierry Henry says Manchester United are facing massive choice between Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho at the end of the season.
The axed Chelsea manager has been linked with Van Gaal’s job relentlessly since the 53-year-old was sacked by the west London club following a disastrous start to the defence of their Premier League campaign in December.
However, the current United boss has managed to survive until the end of the season ahead of their clash against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
Ligue 1 champions are thought to be in talks with Mourinho, which could force the Red Devils’s hand if the Portuguese is a target to replace Van Gaal in the summer.
Former Arsenal striker Henry believes failing to finish outside the top four has left the United manager in a perilous position, but insists the Red Devils are still facing a tough decision.
“I don’t know if it can be Jose Mourinho,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“Manchester United not being in the Champions League is a big question on Louis van Gaal. The only problem with Manchester United is that you are already going to be compared to Yorke, Cole, Giggs, Beckham, Keane, Scholes and Ferdinand.
“When Jose Mourinho comes, he usually wins you titles: the Premier League or the Champions League. Now the question is Louis van Gaal: Are you keeping him or not? It’s a massive question mark.”
United have finished outside the top four in two of the last three seasons.
