Toby Alderweireld makes bold claim about Tottenham next season
Toby Alderweireld says Tottenham Hotspur will be even stronger next season
Toby Alderweireld has reassured Tottenham Hotspur supporters that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be even better next season.
The Lilywhites required a point from their final game of the Premier League season at St James’s Park to finish above their bitter north London rivals.
However, Spurs suffered a surprise 5-1 defeat by relegated Newcastle United to drop down to third place and compound their disappointment of missing out on the Premier League title.
But Belgium international Alderweireld is adamant that he and his team-mates will be even stronger next season as Spurs look to win their first-ever Premier League title.
“Of course we were very disappointed because all of Tottenham wanted to get second you know but overall at the end we have to think we had a good season,” Alderweireld told Sky Sports News.
“I think it was our worst game of the season and we didn’t want that to happen so like I said next season is a new season.
“We have got guaranteed Champions League football which we have not had for a couple of years so it is the next step for the club. That’s important and next season we can come back stronger.
“We want to win it, and we will go for it. I think we now have a different mindset from the one we had at the beginning of this season. Then we were thinking the top four would be brilliant now we are thinking more than that, we want to go one better.”
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Chelsea in a bad-tempered London derby at Stamford Bridge to end their title challenge and hand the Premier League trophy to Leicester City.
Spurs failed to win any of their last four Premier League games of the season after draws with Chelsea and West Brom followed by defeats by Southampton and Newcastle.
