Alan Smith urges Premier League star to sign for Arsenal
Alan Smith is urging Jamie Vardy to secure a transfer to Arsenal from Leicester City this summer
Alan Smith has urged Jamie Vardy to complete a transfer to Arsenal this summer as the striker continues to be linked with a move to The Emirates.
The north London club are believed to have triggered the £20m release clause in the forward’s contract and have offered the 29-year-old a four-year deal to move to The Emirates.
Vardy, however, appears to be in no rush to make a decision about his future and he is reported to be waiting until after his involvement in Euro 2016 with England before making a decision ahead of next season.
However, former Arsenal and Leicester man Smith feels that Vardy would be foolish to turn down a move to the north London club this summer.
Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Smith said: “I know Leicester are in the Champions League but Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the country.
“I will probably upset Leicester fans, but my advice is I think he should grab it [the chance to join Arsenal].
“The chances are this kind of opportunity won’t come again and you have got to make the very most of your opportunities during the course of your career.”
Vardy scored 24 goals in the Premier League for Leicester last season as the Claudio Ranieri’s men won the title ahead of Arsenal, who finished second.
