Arsenal boost as top Liverpool target snubs summer transfer – report
Mario Gotze would still be open to joining the likes of Arsenal this summer after reportedly snubbing Liverpool
Mario Gotze has turned down a summer transfer to Liverpool because he feels it would be a step down in his career – but would be open to joining Arsenal, according to reports.
The Bayern Munich star had been heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield to link up with his former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside.
However, no move has yet materialised and the latest reports in Germany suggest that he has turned down the chance to move to Anfield.
Now, the Daily Express is reporting that Gotze feels that moving to Liverpool would represent a step down in his career.
The same story goes on to say that Gotze would still be open to securing a transfer to the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid or Barcelona this summer.
Liverpool will not play in Europe next season, while all three of his other touted destinations could offer the World Cup winner Champions League football next term.
Arsenal finished second in the table last season, 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
