Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: My thoughts on Jamie Vardy ahead of Euro 2016

Arsene Wenger discusses Jamie Vardy's England hopes as Arsenal continue to be linked with the forward

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Jamie Vardy will not be a starter for England at Euro 2016 as Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for the striker.

The north London side are understood to have triggered the £20m release clause in the striker’s contract and have offered the forward a lucrative four-year deal to move to Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements as Wenger gears up for what could end up being his final season in charge of the club.

However, despite Arsenal’s apparent interest in bringing Vardy to The Emirates, the Arsenal manager feels that the forward does not have enough international experience to warrant a starting spot for England in France.

Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: “I don’t think that he (Vardy) will be a starter. He has earned a place in the squad.

“I don’t say this because he does not have the quality, but because he doesn’t have enough experience at that level to say the whole tournament will depend on Vardy.”

Arsenal finished second last season, while Vardy’s 24 goals helped to fire Leicester City to the Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri.
