Arsene Wenger makes bold claim about £125m midfielder linked with Man United
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Man United target Paul Pogba will only get better
Arsene Wenger says Manchester United target Paul Pogba won’t fulfil his full potential until he is 26.
The France international is one of the hottest prospects in Europe and attracting interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs in the summer transfer window.
The Juventus midfielder has already been linked with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League duo Chelsea and United.
Just 23, Pogba has won an impressive four successive Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and finished as a Champions League runner-up during a decorated spell at the Turin side.
However, Arsenal manager Wenger believes there is much more to come from Pogba, who is being linked with a potential return to Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho this summer.
“He’ll be the player that we expect at 26. That he’s not bringing everything that we expect of him, it’s normal at that age,” Wenger is quoted as saying by Daily Star.
“I don’t know any player who carried the French team at 23 years of age. None.
“Now that he’s going through a maturing period, we start to cast doubt on him. It’s the mental test in the career of a top player.
“Either he’ll lose the aura that he had or else he’s going to show that he’s the player that we were waiting for and he’s going to develop further.
“It’s the normal phase for a very good player on the path to becoming a great player.”
Pogba has netted 28 goals in 124 Serie A appearances for Juventus over the past four seasons.
