Arsene Wenger talks up reported Arsenal transfer target
Arsene Wenger admits that he is a keen admirer of Leicester's N'Golo Kante
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on N’Golo Kante amid the speculation linking Arsenal with a transfer swoop for the Leicester City star.
The north London side are among the clubs to have been linked with a move to sign the France international after his stellar displays for Leicester last term.
The holding midfielder earned plenty of new admirers for his impressive performances as he helped Claudio Ranieri’s men with the Premier League title ahead of Wenger’s Arsenal.
Kante has further enhanced his glowing reputation with top displays for France at Euro 2016 against Romania and Albania.
And Wenger’s latest comments about the midfielder are likely to do little to quell the speculation linking him with a move to The Emirates.
Wenger is quoted as saying by Metro: “He [Kante] is everywhere. He is especially intelligent. He is always on the move but always where he needs to be.
“Sometimes you say to yourself, ‘why are you going there?’, and then he is able to retrieve a ball that nobody expected him to recover.
“After 20 minutes [against Albania] I had already counted three fantastic interceptions. In Europe, the best defensive midfielders make four per game. He is above six, generally. This is exceptional.”
Arsenal are also keen to sign striker Jamie Vardy from Leicester and are reported to have tabled a £20m bid to bring him to north London.
