Chelsea boost as Italy striker’s agent talks up transfer – report

Emanuele Giaccherini's agent talks up a potential move to Chelsea

Chelsea have received a boost after Emanuele Giaccherini’s agent talked up a potential move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Italy international has emerged as a surprise target for the 2015 Premier League champions following the appointment of his current national team head coach Antonio Conte.

Giaccherini scored Italy’s winner in a 2-0 victory over Sweden in their second European championship game on Friday evening to net back-to-back wins for the Azzurri.

The Sunderland midfielder spent the 2015/16 on loan at Serie A club Bologna and the 31-year-old midfielder scored an impressive seven times in 24 top-flight games.

However, according to Giaccherini’s agent, the Italy forward would welcome a move to Chelsea if the chance to follow in Conte’s footsteps emerged in the coming months.

“Giaccherini is a player who played 80 per cent of the games for a Juventus that had Pogba, Pirlo, Vidal and Marchisio in the midfield,” Furio Valcareggi is quoted as saying by Daily Star.

“Conte likes him a lot and Chelsea would be a dream.

“It’s still too early to talk about his future. After the Euros, whoever wants to buy him will not have to pay a high price to Sunderland.”

Giaccherini won two Serie A titles and the Italian Super Cup under Conte during his two-year stay at Juventus before he completed a move to Sunderland in 2014.
