Higuain scored 36 times in 35 Serie A games for Napoli in the 2015/16 season, attracting interest from English giants Chelsea and Liverpool.
The 28-year-old is reported to have a £74m contract release clause, with Napoli keen to keep the South American at the Stadio San Paolo.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is optimistic that Argentina forward Higuain could play for the next five years at the Naples club.
“How nice to see him scoring and celebrating as if he’s wearing the Napoli shirt,” De Laurentiis said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“He’s a champion, because he plays for the pleasure of scoring goals, a real striker who should be respected. If his words are sincere, he’ll play for Napoli for at least the next five years.
“I’m ready to extend his contract, I’m so fond of him as a man and as a player. I want Pipita to stay at Napoli forever.”
Liverpool have been previously linked with a big-money move for Higuain, while Arsenal were touted as potential candidates to sign the Napoli striker.
The Reds finished in eighth place in the Premier League table in their first season under Jurgen Klopp.
