Chelsea, Liverpool to battle over £9.5m France midfielder – report
Chelsea and Liverpool want Moussa Sissoko, according to reports in France
Chelsea and Liverpool are preparing to battle for the signature of Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to reports in France.
The Magpies star is being widely-tipped to leave Newcastle this summer after Rafael Benitez failed to steer the Magpies clear of the relegation zone.
Sissoko is part of Didier Deschamps’s France squad despite Newcastle’s disappointing season and the midfielder made a cameo appearance in Friday’s 2-1 victory over Romania in their Euro 2016 opener.
The 26-year-old was one of Newcastle’s better players in an otherwise poor season for the north-east club after a return of one goal and seven assists in 37 Premier League games.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea and Liverpool are plotting moves for the £9.5m-rated midfielder as Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp look to strengthen their respective squads.
Sissoko has scored 12 goals in 133 appearances for Newcastle in four-and-a-half seasons since his move to St James’s Park from Toulouse in January 2013.
