Chelsea, Man United blow as £24m France defender talks up La Liga move
Chelsea and Manchester United target Samuel Umtiti speaks of his interest in Barcelona
Chelsea and Manchester United have suffered a blow after Samuel Umtiti spoke of his admiration for Barcelona.
The Lyon star has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months after an eye-catching season for the Ligue 1 runners-up.
Chelsea and Manchester United were thought to be interested in the France defender ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.
Lyon defender Umtiti admitted that he is a big fan of the La Liga champions in a statement that will come as a blow to Chelsea and United.
“Barça are a great club and many players would like to play there,” Umtiti told Mundo Deportivo.
“I am handling the rumours well, I am happy to be here (at Euro2016) and I am taking advantage of every moment. My future is being dealt with by my agents. I am not too distracted by that right now, I am focused on this competition.”
The Lyon defender is thought to command a transfer fee in the region of £24m.
Umtiti has scored five goals in 167 appearances for the French club over the past five seasons.
Chelsea and United failed to qualify for a place in next season’s Champions League.
