Chelsea want to make defender Antonio Conte’s first signing – report
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, according to Mundo Deportivo
Chelsea have made contact with Lyon over their rising star Samuel Umtiti, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of interest from La Liga champions Barcelona in recent weeks following the conclusion of the Ligue 1 season.
Umtiti scored one goal in 30 appearances in the French top flight last term after a breakthrough campaign at Lyon.
The France Under-21 international has been included in Didier Deschamps’s Euro 2016 squad for this summer’s tournament following injury to Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen to sign the Lyon full-back to bolster his Blues squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
However, the 2015 English champions are thought to be facing competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and La Liga giants Barcelona for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Conte will take over the reins of Chelsea following Italy’s Euro 2016 campaign this summer.
