Chelsea receive transfer update on £28m Belgium midfielder
Radja Nainggolan is set to stay at Roma despite Chelsea interest, according to Luciano Spalletti
Radja Nainggolan has “promised” that he will stay at Roma this summer, according to the club’s manager Luciano Spalletti.
The 28-year-old has been a long-term target for the west London side and new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is thought to be keen on the Serie A star.
Nainggolan was unable to inspire Marc Wilmots’s Belgium side to victory in their Euro 2016 opener after the Red Devils lost 2-0 to Conte’s Italy outfit earlier this week.
It was reported earlier this week that the Belgian star was on the brink of signing a new Roma deal in spite of interest from the 2015 Premier League champions.
And Roma manager Spalletti, who returned to the club last term, confirmed that Nainggolan has made a commitment to the Italian capital’s club ahead of the new 2016/17 season.
“Radja is a man of his word and he promised me he will stay,” Spalletti is quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.
“I spoke to him and he seemed enthusiastic about continuing to give us his contribution next season.”
The Belgium star scored six times and made one assist in 35 Serie A appearances last season.
Italy head coach Antonio Conte will take over the reins at Stamford Bridge after this summer’s Euro 2016.
