Jose Mourinho could sell eight Man United players this summer, says ex-Chelsea man
Damien Duff discusses Manchester United's summer transfer plans under Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho could get rid of as many as eight Manchester United stars this summer, according to Damien Duff.
The Portuguese coach was appointed as the club’s new manager last week after days of speculation linking him with the Old Trafford job.
Mourinho, who had been out of work since his sacking by Chelsea back in December, has signed a three year deal with the Red Devils following their sacking of Louis van Gaal.
Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and Mourinho’s plans to revamp his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
Much of the media speculation in recent days has focused on the players Mourinho could bring to Old Trafford, but Duff, who played under the United boss at Chelsea, believes that a number of stars could be shipped out by the new manager this summer.
Speaking in an interview with RTE, Duff said: “I guess there’ll be five, six, seven or eight out, and [Mourinho] will have to replace them with the same amount of players, which is going to cost an awful lot of money.
“But it’s one big band of brothers, us against the world – that’s what he builds. He’s based all his teams on that.
“I think he’s the only man for the job, and I think he was the only man for the job three years ago, before David Moyes went and then Louis van Gaal after.”
