David Seaman believes Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy would give Arsenal another option next season.

The Gunners have been linked with a surprise £20m move for the Foxes centre-forward as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options at the Emirates Stadium.

Vardy scored 24 times in 36 Premier League games for the English champions – only Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane netted more goals than his England colleague.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Seaman endorsed Wenger’s pursuit of the 29-year-old Leicester striker after the Gunners reportedly activated Vardy’s contract release clause.

“No [I’m not surprised by the bid], not really, I was hoping that he’d come,” said Seaman, speaking with 888sport.

“He gives us another option, Jamie Vardy is not just a ball over the top player, he’s got a lot more to his game and if he can bring that into the Arsenal side as well as a ball over the top outlet then he’d be a great signing.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table following a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at The Emirates on the final day of the 2015/16 season.

France striker Olivier Giroud scored 16 times in 38 Premier League appearances for the north London side last season.

Only Alexis Sanchez managed to join Giroud in double figures in terms of Premier League goals as Danny Welbeck endured an injury-hit season.
