Dwight Yorke is backing Anthony Martial to develop into one of the Premier League’s top strikers under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

The France international earned plenty of new admirers last season after breaking into the Red Devils’ first team under Louis van Gaal.

Martial arrived in England last September in a big-money deal from Monaco as a largely unknown talent but quickly established himself as a regular in the United first team.

It remains to be seen whether Mourinho will place the same faith in the striker as Van Gaal, but former United striker Yorke is convinced that the forward has a successful career ahead of him.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport, former striker Yorke said: “He came into this country relatively unknown and people were raising their eyebrows thinking ‘Who is this guy?’

“But he certainly made an impact at Manchester United and been one of the highlights of their season.

“He’s only 20 so still at that junior stage of his career and he’s just going to get better and better.

“There is no doubt he will be a big player for both club and country.”

Mourinho was appointed as the Red Devils’ new manager last week on a three-year contract, just days after United opted to sack Louis van Gaal following the club’s fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.
