Former Chelsea midfielder expresses shock Antonio Conte could sell £21m winger
Pat Nevin is shocked to hear Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could sell Pedro this summer
Pat Nevin has expressed his disbelief that new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could sell Pedro Rodriguez.
The Italy head coach was named as Guus Hiddink’s permanent successor earlier this year, although Conte won’t take over the reins at Stamford Bridge until after the European championship.
Chelsea are thought to be on the brink of signing Belgium international Michy Batshuayi in a £30m deal from Ligue 1 side Marseille as Conte looks to strengthen his attacking options.
However, the former Juventus head coach is thought to be ready to sell up to four Blues players as he bids to stamp his imprint on the west London side’s squad ahead of the new season.
But former Chelsea winger Nevin warned Conte that it would be foolish to get rid of the World Cup winner less than 12 months after the Spanish man completed a £21m move to Stamford Bridge.
“It’s a big, big call for the new manager,” Nevin told Daily Star.
“If Conte wants to get rid of three or four to get the funds to bring in new faces, it wouldn’t be a shock to anyone if Pedro was one to go.
“But on the other hand it wouldn’t be a shock if he stays and then has a really good second season either.”
Pedro scored seven goals in 27 La Liga appearances.
