The former Denmark international pulled the curtain down on his career on Thursday aged just 31 having seen out his career with boyhood club Brondby.

Wilshere came up against Agger a number of times when Liverpool took on Arsenal in the Premier League.

And the England midfielder admitted on Twitter that he was sad to see the former Liverpool star hang up his boots for good this week.

Wilshere tweeted on Thursday:

Agger was a fan’s favourite at Anfield and made 232 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, scoring 14 goals for the Reds.

Wilshere – who missed most of last season due to injury – is currently on international duty with England in France as he and his Three Lions team-mates prepare for their group opener against Russia on Saturday night.
