Jamie Carragher: Why I agree with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger about this
Jamie Carragher shares his thoughts on some of the world's top strikers
Jamie Carragher has revealed that he shares Arsene Wenger’s opinion that some of the best strikers in the world are produced in South America.
Arsenal boss Wenger brought Chile forward Alexis Sanchez to Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2014, and the striker has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers since his move to England.
Wenger also famously failed in his attempts to bring Luis Suarez to the north London club, with the Uruguay forward going on to become one of Europe’s top strikers at Barcelona.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher agrees with Wenger that some of the world’s best attacking talent comes from South America.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “If you want a top striker, Arsene Wenger said last year, the first place you should look is South America.
“Arsenal’s manager was making the point that Europe cannot currently match the quality of forwards from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and beyond and when you look at the cast list at the European Championship compared to the Copa America, you can see where he is coming from.”
Arsenal have also been linked with a move to bring Uruguay forward Edinson Cavani to north London in the past.
