Jermaine Jenas has claimed that the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are now two years behind Tottenham as Spurs prepare for a return to the Champions League.
The Lilywhites earned plenty of praise for their performances last season as they challenged Leicester City for the Premier League title.
Spurs endured a disappointing end to the season, however, as they were pipped to a second-placed finish by local rivals Arsenal on the final day of the campaign.
Tottenham are now preparing for a return to Europe’s elite club competition following their third-placed finish last term.
Attentions will now inevitably turn to the summer transfer window and Mauricio Pochettino’s plans to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
And former Spurs man Jenas feels that it is time for Tottenham to take advantage of the position that they have put themselves in with their good form.
Speaking to the Independent, Jenas said: “It’s time for them to become a team that wins titles.
“They don’t want to be spending big money on new training grounds and stadiums otherwise. Top clubs have smashed their wage structures and it’s time for Spurs to take a risk.
“They need to add players this summer. Manchester United and Chelsea are two years behind Spurs at the moment. It’s a big opportunity for them to take some risks.”
