Joey Barton makes bold claim about Tottenham striker
Joey Barton says Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane needs a rest
Joey Barton has urged England manager Roy Hodgson to rest Harry Kane for their Euro 2016 showdown against Slovakia next week.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker was replaced by Jamie Vardy at half-time of England’s 2-1 victory over Wales following an ineffectual first-half performance in Lens.
Hodgson opted to make the change with England trailing 1-0 following Gareth Bale’s second goal of the European championship after Joe Hart failed to stop the Real Madrid star’s free-kick.
Kane scored 25 goals in 37 Premier League games in the 2015/16 season as the Spurs forward finished as the division’s top goal-scorer ahead of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Vardy.
Rangers midfielder Barton, who has one England cap, suggested that Kane and Sterling need to be rested for the final group game against Slovakia next week.
Rooney was suburb again. Kyle Walker also excellent. Joe Hart got away with one. Sterling needs a rest and by the looks of it Kane also.

Vardy, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks to the approval of Gunners legend Martin Keown, levelled for England with a close-range finish after Ashley William’s poor header.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge netted in added time to complete a 2-1 comeback victory for England.
The Leicester City striker helped to fire Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes win the Premier League last season after a return of 24 goals in 36 top-flight games in an enthralling 2015/16 campaign.
Vardy has capped an impressive domestic campaign with his fourth goal in an England shirt and his first strike in a major tournament after he was included in Hodgson’s Euro 2016 tournament.
Arsenal are thought to be on the brink of confirming a £20m deal to sign Leicester’s player of the year, which would be Arsene Wenger’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
