Jose Mourinho explains what is special about new Manchester United signing Eric Bailly
Jose Mourinho has branded Eric Bailly as a naturally talented central defender after the Ivory Coast international signed a four-year contract with Manchester United on Wednesday.
The Red Devils confirmed that the defender had signed a deal with the Premier League on Wednesday afternoon via a statement on their official website, subject to a work permit.
Bailly becomes Mourinho’s first signing since his appointment as Manchester United’s new manager last month.
And the former Chelsea boss was full of praise for the central defender.
Mourinho told United’s website: “Eric is a young central defender with great natural talent. He has progressed well to date and has the potential to become one of the best around.
“We look forward to working with him to help nurture that raw talent and fulfil his potential. Eric is at the right club to continue his development.”
The Red Devils confirmed that the player has signed a four-year deal, with an option to extend for a further two years to keep him at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old defender made 47 appearances for Villarreal after joining the Spanish side in January 2015.
The Ivory Coast international has made 15 appearances for his country and was part of the Africa Cup of Nations-winning team last year, having featured in all six matches during the competition.
