Jose Mourinho must stick with this Man United man, says former Chelsea star
Andre Schurrle wants Jose Mourinho to stick with Bastian Schweinsteiger next season
Andre Schurrle has urged Jose Mourinho to give Bastian Schweinsteiger a chance to prove himself to the new Manchester United manager next season.
The Portuguese coach is currently in the process of revamping his squad at Old Trafford as he prepares for his first season in charge of the Red Devils since being appointed on a three-year contract last week.
Schweinsteiger’s future has been a source of speculation in recent days following Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford, with some reports claiming that the new boss is prepared to show the World Cup winner the exit after just one season at the club.
However, former Chelsea man and Schweinsteiger’s Germany team-mate Schurrle has urged Mourinho to stick with the veteran midfielder next season.
The former Chelsea attacker is quoted as saying by Metro: “I don’t know what Mourinho’s plans are at Man United but I hope he gives him [Schweinsteiger] time because he’s a great player.
“He’s a great person. Mentally, he’s so strong. He knows what to do on the pitch and he’s so calm. We’ve seen it in the training sessions. He’s been one-and-a-half weeks with the team and class is permanent, you know.
“It’s not that easy to come from the Bundesliga into the Premier League. It’s something different and it was not easy for him when he came with the injuries.
“It was a hard year for him. When he’s fit, when he’s the leader he wants to be, he makes every team better.”
Mourinho has been tasked with restoring United to the top of English football after their fifth placed finish last season.
