Jose Mourinho will help Marcus Rashford at Man United, says England legend
Chris Waddle has his say on Marcus Rashford's prospects under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United next season
Chris Waddle believes that Jose Mourinho is the right man to get the best out of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United next season.
The 18-year-old striker earned plenty of new admirers last season for his sparkling displays for the Red Devils after breaking into the United first team under Louis van Gaal.
Rashford has seen his impressive form earn him a place in the England squad for this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France after only making his senior Three Lions debut last month.
There have been concerns about Mourinho’s willingness to put faith in United’s youngsters following his appointment as the club’s new manager last week.
However, England legend Waddle feels that Mourinho is the right man to make sure that the striker continues his progression at Old Trafford next season.
Waddle, speaking exclusively to Carlsberg, said: “Mourinho has never really bred young players into his sides – he likes proven players – and yes, Manchester United will be looking to sign a marquee centre-forward but I would be very surprised if Rashford isn’t given a real chance next season.
“He might lose a bit of form – he’s a young lad and that will happen for a spell because your second season is always the hardest – but Mourinho will help him by pulling him out and allowing him to put his game back together.
“He will need to adjust his game because players will be a lot tighter.”
United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season before the club opted to sack Van Gaal.
