Liverpool blow as Monaco close in on £7m France defender – report

Liverpool target Benjamin Mendy is set to join Monaco this summer, according to reports

Liverpool are set to suffer another disappointment in their bid to sign a left-back this summer as Benjamin Mendy closes in on a move to Monaco, according to the Daily Express.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be keen to bolster his defensive options this summer in light of their 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League final in Basel in May.

Spain left-back Alberto Moreno was heavily criticised for an erratic performance against his former employers Sevilla following a poor domestic campaign.

Liverpool were thought to be keen on Lorient full-back Raphael Guerreiro but the Portuguese star moved to Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.

According to a report in the Daily Express, the Reds are set to miss out on another Ligue 1 target as Mendy closes in on a transfer from Marseille to Monaco.
